SAVE THE ADOPTION TAX CREDIT

Congress needs to step up for the extension of the Adoption Tax Credit, which is due to expire December 31, 2012.  It won’t be such a Happy New Year for those who are ready to adopt or those children hoping to be adopted. Time is running out but we can help.  Let’s work as a team to get Congress to support HR 4373 and S 3616.  There is still time to call Congress, send emails or post on social media.  The power of the people can make things happen.  Social media is there to assist people who have stupid ideas or videos going viral,  so why not use it for the good of the children.  Post , post and post again to get the word out, let them know you want to save the Adoption Tax Credit.

If the Adoption Tax Credit is passed, it would make the tax credit a permanent  and provide up to $13,170 for covered adoption expenses, adjusted for inflation. Raising a child can be a big expense.  Most couples that consider adoption have already been through several thousand of dollars of expensive fertility treatments and then turn to adoption to build their family.  Then there are those that just want to extend their families through adoption.   This Adoption Tax Credit can help families with expenses associated with adoption.  It is a small price to pay for a family and for that child to live and grow in a loving, stable environment.

On January 1, 2013 if this credit is not approved by Congress only those that adopt a special needs child will be eligible for a credit of  $6,000.00. The costs associated with a special needs child can be much more of that than a child without special needs.  These costs in most cases come up after a special needs adoption is finalized.   I hope that in the last hour this Adoption tax Credit is passed to be inclusive for those children adopted from foster care, through international adoption, or through private domestic adoption and flat tax credit for those of special needs children.  If passed it will then become a permanent part of the tax code.

Step up Congress – it seems you are all about the family and children growing up with morals in a loving family – Why would congress pass on this opportunity to help those adoptive families grow while helping them with a small tax credit?  Children need a future to develop with a loving family give them this opportunity.

For more information on the Adoption Tax Credit and other important pieces of family building legislation like the Family Act. Visit Resolve, The National Infertility Association’s web site.  Speak up and be heard, we can all make a difference.  This would be the best gift to start off 2013 on the right track!  A Happy New Year for Happy New Families, let’s make it happen!
